Great Places in Canada 2015 Kicks Off Today!

OTTAWA, Ontario  May 26, 2015 /Canada NewsWire/ - Today marks the start of the 2015 edition of Great Places in Canada and all features on the greatplacesincanada.ca website have now been activated!  Nominations from people across the country will be posted online as they compete for the title of Great StreetGreat Neighbourhood and Great Public Space for 2015.
The Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), created this contest to engage Canadians in sharing their favourite places and to recognize the work accomplished by Professional Planners to make these places possible.
If there's a place you're proud of, share it.  Nominate it and anything can happen.  The exposure that the nominations get is invaluable, and participation in the contest is free.  Winning the designation of Great Place or the title of People's Choice through online votes is the ultimate goal, of course, but there is so much more about this contest than the prizes.  Seeing neighbourhoods and communities rallying support for their nominee and showing their local flare is a reward in itself.  Increased local business or an addition to someone's travel itinerary may also result.
How it worksAs soon as a nomination has been reviewed it will be posted on the website and will be immediately eligible to start receiving votes.  The place in each category with the most votes wins the title of People's Choice plus a prize for the nominator.
The Grand Prize Winner in each category is determined by a jury of Professional planners, based on a variety of planning merits.  The winning nominator not only earns the designation for his/her place, they also receive a great prize.
Nominations can be submitted through until September 3, but the earlier nominations are posted, the sooner they can start collecting votes.  Voting closes September 24.  After the finalists are announced in October, the Grand Prize winners and People's Choice winners will be announced November 4, 2015.
Visit greatplacesincanada.ca to nominate and vote!
